The best thing to do is to ring around the local schools you might use and speak to them directly about the problem. I realise that telling people your cousin has autism can lead to pre-judgement but in this case, if you decide you’re not going to go with them, they’ll never know who you are.

I am 20 years of age and autistic. I learn to drive at age 17 in regular driver education class at school. We made some differences for me that my parents helped devise. One thing is that I had written instructions from the teacher that I read over before each lesson. Another thing is that for the first three times I drive it was only me and driving teacher and my special education class teacher because students in the car made me nervous at first. It is the law in the US that they have to let her try the class and make accommodations if it is offered at school.
